It's recommended to measure your bra size every 6-12 months, as well as after significant weight changes, pregnancy, menopause, or hormonal changes. Our bodies naturally change over time, and regular measurements ensure you're always wearing the most comfortable and supportive size.

Sister sizes are bra sizes with the same cup volume but different band and cup letter combinations. If your calculated size feels tight in the band, go up a band size and down a cup (e.g., from 34C to 36B). If the band feels loose, go down a band size and up a cup (e.g., from 34C to 32D). Sister sizes are useful for finding the most comfortable fit when your exact size isn't available or doesn't feel quite right.

Bra sizing isn't standardized across brands. Each manufacturer may have slightly different fit models and sizing standards. Some brands run smaller or larger in the band or cups. Additionally, different bra styles (e.g., push-up, t-shirt, balconette) may fit differently even within the same brand. This is why our calculator provides brand-specific recommendations and why trying on bras before purchasing is always helpful.

A well-fitting bra should: 1) Have a band that sits parallel to the floor and feels snug but comfortable on the loosest hook, 2) Have cups that fully contain your breast tissue without spillage or gapping, 3) Have a center gore (the piece between cups) that lies flat against your sternum, 4) Have straps that stay in place without digging in or slipping off, and 5) Feel comfortable when moving, sitting, or bending over. If your bra doesn't meet these criteria, you may need a different size or style.

Different breast shapes benefit from different bra styles:

• Round: Most styles work well, especially t-shirt and balconette bras
• Teardrop/Full Bottom: Demi-cup, balconette, or half-cup styles provide support while accommodating the shape
• Full Top: Full-coverage bras or styles with stretch lace upper cups
• East-West: T-shirt bras with side support or push-up styles that center the tissue
• Wide-Set: Plunge or push-up styles to create central cleavage
• Close-Set: Balconette or styles with wider center gores
• Asymmetric: Bras with removable padding or styles that accommodate inserts

With proper care, a quality bra should last between 6-9 months of regular wear. To extend the life of your bras: 1) Rotate between 3-4 bras to give the elastic time to recover, 2) Hand wash or use a lingerie bag on a gentle cycle, 3) Air dry instead of using a dryer, 4) Start with the loosest hook and move inward as the band stretches over time, and 5) Store bras with cups stacked together to maintain their shape.

The "scoop and swoop" is a technique to ensure all your breast tissue is properly positioned in your bra cups. After putting on your bra and fastening it, lean forward and use your hand to scoop all breast tissue (including from your sides and underarms) into the cups. This helps ensure you're getting proper support and reveals if a cup is actually too small. Many women discover they need a larger cup size after using this method correctly.

Common bra fitting mistakes include:

• Wearing a band that's too loose and cups that are too small

• Accepting discomfort as normal
